| Moving hearts to serve the poor World Vision’s History in Taiwan World Vision first opened an office in Taiwan in 1964. Initial efforts focused on strengthening the capacity of children’s homes, medical clinics, and churches in rural areas. Concerned by the number of needy children throughout the country, World Vision, with the help of generous donors, purchased 22,960-square-feet of land to build dormitories and began funding childcare service centers. Bethany Children’s Home, the Puli Christian Hospital, and Shelter Homes for leprosy patients were established to bring medical and emotional assistance to Taiwan’s suffering people. By 1990, the Taiwan office grew to become a self-funded entity and presently supports local and international projects. Today, World Vision is the largest Christian agency in Taiwan. Thanks to thousands of Taiwanese donors, World Vision’s child sponsorship programs are improving the lives of countless poor children by helping their families and communities become self-sufficient. |
